Getting to Catalina Island

Getting to Catalina Island is simple. High-speed cruisers zoom the Pacific waters from Long Beach, San Pedro, Dana Point, Marina Del Rey and Newport Beach, at up to 20 departures a day. Trip length varies from one hour to one hour and forty-five minutes depending on your departure location. The Catalina Express or Catalina Passenger Service doesn’t offer ballroom dancing with an orchestra like the opulent steamships S.S. Avalon and S.S. Catalina from the 1920’s, but their airline-style seats, snacks and cocktail bars assure comfort. For the time-crunched vacationer, Island Express Helicopter Service provides daily flights, cutting travel time to 15 minutes.

Once on Catalina Island, the preferred mode of transportation is on foot or by golf cart. The number of vehicles allowed on the city streets is regulated. Locals will proudly boast cart to car figures are 1,250 to 950. Golf cart rentals are available as well as bikes rentals. Hotels provide Shuttle service and taxies are at your beck-and-call. Catalina Safari Bus shuttles visitors to the airport, Two Harbors and campgrounds.
